Qkine alliance with Culturon promises advances in stem cell and life science
Culturon, based in Sydney, specialises in the development of advanced cell culture surfaces said to revolutionise cell culture surface engineering to greatly improve performance for stem cell research and manufacturing.
The innovative surfaces reportedly enable easy covalent attachment of proteins and biomolecules, providing what the company calls ‘unparalleled control’ over the cell culture microenvironment for enhanced reproducibility and outcomes.
Qkine is said to bring unmatched expertise in the production of high-purity, bioactive growth factors and cytokines. Its precision-engineered proteins are optimised for consistency and performance – critical for reproducible cell culture and advanced stem cell systems.
Together, Culturon’s advanced cell culture surfaces and Qkine’s rigorously optimised growth factors form a powerful synergy, providing researchers and manufacturers with reliable, high-performance tools to drive innovation in regenerative medicine, drug discovery, tissue engineering and bioassay development.
The companies say that the partnership marks a step forward in enabling ‘high-quality, customisable solutions for scientists around the globe.’
CEO Dr Catherine Elton co-founded Qkine in 2016 while completing a Daphne Jackson fellowship at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. She later joined Abcam – since acquired by US company Danaher Corporation – where she was a member of the senior management team responsible for R & D and product manufacture.
