HCR Hewitsons stars at Legal Excellence Awards

Biggin was said to have contributed significantly to the legal community in Cambridge and thoroughly deserved the recognition according to colleagues and organisers.
It capped a great night for the firm as HCR Hewitsons starred throughout with a number of successes. It also won Law Firm of the Year, sponsored by Barclays, and the Trainee of the Year category and enjoyed a number of commendations.
Fiona McLeman, Vice-President of CLS, hosted the event at King’s College, Cambridge and presented the awards together with event sponsors, including Mark Winchester from Rathbones Wealth Management (the Platinum Sponsor). Sarah Crick, CEO of the Red Hen Project spoke at the event and a charity raffle took place to raise money for the Red Hen Project.
McLeman said: “It is always a pleasure to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the legal profession in Cambridgeshire over the last 12 months and this year was no exception.
“It was a fantastic event, held at the prestigious King’s College, Cambridge. I was particularly pleased that we were also able to raise a substantial amount of money for the Red Hen Project, which is a local charity supporting children and their families.”
Greenwoods Legal LLP won the Property Team of the Year accolade, sponsored by Handelsbanken. Simmons & Simmons LLP and Tees Law were highly commended.
Howes Percival LLP won the Business Law Team of the Year prize with Birketts and HCR Hewitsons highly commended.
Buckles’ family team won the Private Client Services Team of the Year award sponsored by EBCam. FM Family Law and HCR Hewitsons were highly commended.
The ‘In House Team of the Year’ accolade, sponsored by LHH Recruitment Solutions, went to life sciences giant AstraZeneca.
Ashtons Legal won the Litigation Team of the year accolade, sponsored by Price Bailey LLP. Slater & Gordon UK Limited and HCR Hewitsons were highly commended.
The Intellectual Property/IT Team of the Year, sponsored by AstraZeneca, went to J A Kemp LLP with Appleyard Lees and Keltie LLP highly commended.
Greenwoods Legal clinched the firm’s second major prize of the evening, winning the EDI Initiative Team of the Year, sponsored by Appleyard Lees; Buckles Solicitors and Simmons & Simmons were highly commended.
Fenners Chambers won the Criminal Law Team of the Year prize, sponsored by Review Solicitors; Shelley & Co was highly commended.
Trainee Lawyer of the Year sponsored by BPP, was won by Alice Moylan of HCR Hewitsons with Emily Walden of Irwin Mitchell LLP and William Hall of HCR Hewitsons highly commended.
Rising Star of the Year, sponsored by Fenners Chambers, was won by Jonathan Goodacre of Keltie LLP with commendations for Evelyne Tseng-Shields of Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Caitlin Levins from FM Family Law.
Senior Lawyer of the Year, sponsored by HCR Hewitsons, went to Victoria Sandell of Howes Percival LLP with Michael Frape of Ashtons Legal and Elizabeth Corke-Webster from Mills & Reeve highly commended.
The Outstanding Support Staff Member prize, sponsored by Ensors, was won by Stefan Mitham of Ashtons Legal with Anna Krupa of HCR Hewitsons and Sharon Osborn from Keltie LLP highly commended.
