Grant Thornton advises on MBO of Ipswich joinery and interiors firm
Founded in 1981 by James Taylor, TMJ, which has more than 200 employees, is a trusted name in the industry. The company’s client portfolio includes Windsor Castle, 2012 Olympic Park, the Royal Opera House, Bloomberg’s London HQ and the Millennium Ceiling at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
The MBO team, which was led by Tim Coll, Sarah Warren and Kevin Pryke, marks a new chapter in the company’s history and the move is expected to bring increased operational efficiency and continued innovation, positioning TMJ for sustainable growth.
The team remains committed to upholding the family values and “grow our own” ethos that have been integral to the company’s success.
James Taylor, Founder of TMJ, said: “After building TMJ for the past four decades, I am pleased the company legacy will continue. This is an exciting opportunity for the management team and I look forward to supporting them as they navigate through this evolution.”
The deal will see Tim move from the role of Contracts Director to Managing Director, while James will become Chairman and continue to support the management team.

TMJ shareholders were advised by Grant Thornton's Central and East corporate finance team led by Partner Stuart Davies and included Associate Director, Ned Brown and Assistant Manager, Usman Khattak. Partner Daniel Hartland led the tax advisory team, which included Associate Directors Victoria Metcalfe and Charlotte Morgan.
Birketts LLP, led by Partner Alexandra Nelson and Senior Associate Emma Bysouth, provided legal advice to TMJ shareholders.
