Attendees have been confirmed from various companies involved in the research and development of battery technology in the automotive, engineering and aerospace sectors.

AVL will talk about the shortage of adequate testing and validation facilities available to companies developing cells and modules, particularly smaller companies who are not able to commit the capital costs to the very expensive and large facilities often needed.

AVL will also explain that although the UK is fantastic at developing ideas within universities, it has a poor record of taking some propositions through to production. This means it could be left behind without adequate testing and development facilities being made widely available to companies of all sizes.

The region has a number of successes in the sector, including Echion Technologies which spun out from the University of Cambridge and has had ongoing support from Cambridge Enterprise.

John Halfpenny, Echion’s Executive Chairman, will talk about the company’s journey including the challenges they have faced and the opportunity the UKBRDC could provide. Representatives from Caterpillar Perkins, Anglia Ruskin University and East West Rail are also set to present at the Symposium.

It is being held from 9 a.m. until 2.30 p.m. at Pathfinder House in St Mary’s Street, Huntingdon. The hosts are Huntingdonshire District Council and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority.

The event is designed to explore the region’s future role in the clean energy and future fuels sector and the potential for it to become the location fo a proposed new battery and future energy R & D hub.

Industry leaders and stakeholders will join AVL to discuss he UK’s battery manufacturing capacity and capability, as well as future energy demands.
