Addenbrooke’s and Rosie make UK apprenticeship elite

The Trust, which runs Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie maternity hospital, is one of just three NHS hospital trusts to receive the accolade from judges who received more than 800 employer entries.

CUH, which was ranked 83rd, signed up more than 274 apprentices between April 2023 and 31 March this year. They studied 44 different subjects including nursing, allied healthcare professions, healthcare sciences, estates and facilities, finance, customer service, business administration, and digital marketing.

They were supported by members of the Nursing Apprenticeship Team, and the Work Opportunities Team for all other non-nursing apprenticeships.

A CUH representative has been invited to lunch at the House of Commons in September, hosted by Baroness Jacqui Smith, minister for skills, apprenticeships and higher education.

The aim is to celebrate the achievements of the country’s top 100, meet members of the Apprenticeships Directorate at the Department of Education and network with other winners.

CUH work opportunities manager, Kate Greenwood, said: “This is an incredible achievement for the Trust, which has worked so hard to create opportunities for apprentices and the chance to earn while they learn new skills. We are very proud of the achievement, and firm believers in the importance of recruiting, developing, and retaining our own talented people.”

Education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, added: “Apprenticeships provide opportunities for people from all walks and the employers ranked in this list are crucial to our plans in supporting people to get better jobs and grow the economy.

“With the launch of Skills England, we will bring together businesses with trade unions, mayors and training providers to ensure we have the highly trained workforce needed to deliver the national, regional and local skills needs.”

Skills England aims to “unite businesses, trade unions, mayors, and training providers to address national and local skills needs and boost opportunity while driving economic growth.”

For the fourth time, the British Army was named the country’s number one apprenticeship employer for 2024.
