Cambridge based Ashton KCJ Solicitors has continued its expansion in the UK with the acquisition of Norwich-based Chambers & Co (Solicitors) Limited.

The firm, which specialises in overseas and domestic UK franchises, will be a valuable addition to Ashton KCJ’s commercial team.

John Chambers, who founded Chambers & Co in 1998, is one of the UK’s leading franchise lawyers and acts for 20 per cent of the franchisors in the UK.

He says: “We have worked with Ashton KCJ for many years; their commercial and disputes teams are second to none and I’m delighted with this development. The skill set of the new firm will enable us to provide our Franchisor clients with a wider choice of legal services.”

Edward O’Rourke, partner and head of Corporate and Commercial at Ashton KCJ added: “The acquisition of Chambers & Co is an exciting step for the firm so soon after our merger at the end of 2011.”

Chief executive Simon Smith felt the Chambers & Co team added another niche service to Ashton KCJ’s established specialist teams including French Legal Services, Court of Protection and the nationally recognised Clinical Negligence department.

“We are very excited at the prospect of working with some of the UK’s national franchisors,” he said.
