Cambridge Healthcare, HEE, Brady & Kymab join race

Cambridge Healthcare founder, Dawson King

Competition is really hotting up for Business Weekly’s Awards, which reach a thrilling climax in March, 2012.

The quality of entrants is higher than ever and the range of sectors covered reflects the strength through diversity of the Cambridge technology cluster and East of England region. Quoted Cambridge Science Park company, Brady plc, is among the latest clutch of class entries.

The business specialises in risk management software and a deal this week with an Hong Kong-headquartered Chinese giant is Brady’s 13th significant contract of 2011 – a staggering achievement.

The BioMedTech category has picked up a real head of steam. Health Enterprise East Ltd, which helps to identify and commercialise innovation from the NHS, is among the newcomers. So is Dawson King’s thrusting young enterprise, Cambridge Healthcare – also known as www.howareyou.com – which is one of the most exciting innovation businesses to have emerged from Cambridge in a long while.

Babraham Research Campus company Kymab – founded by Dr Allan Bradley, who was formerly director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, is another world-class entrant.

Kymab is a ‘platform to product’ biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery and development of fully human monoclonal antibody drugs using its proprietary Kymouse™ transgenic antibody platform. The company was founded in 2009 to develop a mouse-based human antibody discovery platform – the Kymouse – designed to have a superior repertoire of B-cell mediated immune responses to current in vivo systems.

The company is using the Kymouse platform to discover and develop potent and selective therapeutic antibodies for development as biopharmaceuticals. Kymab raised £20m of equity financing from the investment division of the Wellcome Trust.

Judging continues well into the New Year and decisions will be made as late as possible before being announced Oscar-style at the gala presentation dinner at Queens’ College, Cambridge, on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

The dinner forms the first part of a glittering week of celebration for Cambridge business. The Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards presentations are at King’s College, Cambridge on Thursday, March 22.
