Conference Cambridge, the official venue-finding service representing The University of Cambridge and the Colleges, is celebrating its most successful year to date.
For the first time, Conference Cambridge has attended two international exhibitions – IMEX in Frankfurt in May and EIBTM in Barcelona in November – which have resulted in enquiries totalling £2 million of business from buyers located all over the world.
Back at its Cambridge base on King’s Parade, other records have been broken, with 2479 enquiries being received versus 2349 in 2009, adding up to an estimated £10.5 million worth of business.
March 2010 was another record, the busiest month in the 12-year history of Conference Cambridge, with 262 enquiries. Events booked over the last 12 months will bring 307,391 delegates to Cambridge.
Judith Sloane from Conference Cambridge said: “Breaking all our previous records to date is a great way to end the year. We are particularly pleased that our first foray into attending international exhibitions – thanks to our partnership with VisitBritain – has proved the global appeal of Cambridge.
“We are also taking bookings for large events next year and beyond, including some internationally renowned conferences which are coming to the UK for the first time and have chosen Cambridge as their preferred destination. Our unique offering of world-famous historical buildings combined with state-of-the-art meetings technology, together with high levels of customer service, has true international appeal”.
Conference Cambridge was established in 1998 and represents 36 venues including 28 Cambridge Colleges, as well as University sites, Faculty buildings, Cambridge University Press and The Møller Centre. A total of 400 function rooms, 50 tiered theatres and 7500 bedrooms are available, 3000 of which are en suite.
